Elshan Ghasimi

Elshan Ghasimi (* 1981 in Tehran , Iran ) is a tar virtuoso, composer , performance artist and master of classical Persian music .

Elshan Ghasimi began studying classical Persian music at the Tehran Conservatory of Music at the age of nine. She learned from Majid Vasefi, Reza Vohdani and Fariborz Azizi as well as the masters Houshang Zarif and Hossein Alizadeh . At the age of 17 she became the youngest member of the Iranian National Orchestra (1998-2006) under the direction of Farhad Fakhreddini .

During her studies, Ghasimi deepened her knowledge of radīf (repertoire of Iranian classical music), improvisation and playing the tar with masters such as Mohammad Reza Lotfi, Dariush Pirniakan and Dariush Talai . In Baku , Azerbaijan , she continued her education with a teaching of Mugham (traditional, Azerbaijani form of music) and the Caucasian tar.

In her compositions Ghasimi takes up classical, literary themes and combines music, performance and conceptual art. Ghasimi has lived in Tehran and Berlin since 2016 . She performed concerts a. a. to the Radialsystem Berlin, the Cologne Philharmonie , the Hamburg Resonanzraum, the Lettrétage in Berlin and the PODIUM Festival Esslingen .
