Hossein Alizadeh
Hossein Alizadeh ( Persian حسین علیزاده, DMG Ḥoseyn-e ʿAlīzāde ; * 1951 in Tehran ) is considered one of the most respected Iranian composers , Radif keepers, researchers and teachers as well as an excellent tar and setar player. He is referred to by many as the Ostad (master) of Persian music . Critics consider him to be one of the most influential artists of his generation.
;He made many recordings with famous artists such as Mohammad-Resa Shajarian , Nazeri , Khalaj and Gasparjan .
Life
Alizadeh graduated from the Conservatory in 1975 and began studying Composition and Persian Music at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Tehran . He later continued his education in composition and musicology at what was then the Berlin University of the Arts . He studied with various masters of traditional Persian music, such as Houshang Zarif, Ali Akbar Shahnazi , Nur-Ali Borumand , Mahmoud Karimi , Abdollah Davami , Yusef Forutan and Sa'id Hormozi . From them he learned the radif of Persian music.
He plays Tar and Setar and has the Sallāneh and sur-Angiz from the ancient Persian lute Barbat reconstructed.
His son Saba Alizadeh, who was born in Tehran in 1983, is also a musician and combines traditional Persian with contemporary electronic music.
Alizadeh's students include the Tar and Setar virtuoso Sahba Motallebi (* 1977), who lives in California.
Awards
In 2007 he was nominated for a Grammy Award together with the Armenian musician Djivan Gasparyan for their album The Endless Vision . In 2008 he was voted the most outstanding musician of the year.
Inventions
- Sallāneh and Šūr-Angīz : Two new musical instruments derived from the ancient Persian lute barbat .
- Dād-o Bidād : A small maqām ( Āwāz ) in Persian music, which was created by combining the gushehs “Dād” from the Dastgāh Māhūr and “Bidād” from the Dastgāh Homāyūn.
