Herzberger Telescope Meeting

The Herzberg Telescope Meeting (abbreviated HTT) has been taking place in Jeßnigk every year in early autumn since 2000 . Every weekend near the new moon, not far from Herzberg (Elster) , about 90 km south of Berlin, many amateur astronomers with their telescopes meet to observe and talk shop together.

Several hundred visitors from Germany and abroad come to the meeting every year. In the Czech Republic in particular , the “HTT” has made many friends since 2005, and for a number of years now, star friends from Scandinavia and the Alpine countries have also been traveling regularly. The Herzberger Telescope Meeting has gained international flair, is the most important astronomical event in East Germany and, after the "International Telescope Meeting Vogelsberg" in Gedern, Hesse, the second largest observer meeting in Central Europe.

Local hero of the event is the 42 "- giant Dobson ., Which with 1,070 mm diameter mirror probably currently the largest telescope in the world In addition, located in the portable use is the deep, dark, city distant sky (with appropriate conditions to 7 may visually SQM-L o Milchstr.. up to 21.91 mag / "2) an attraction for astrophotographers and visual observers from near and far. Numerous and z. Some spectacular astrophotos were taken on the HTT. For example, at the meeting in September 2010, the so far probably only recording of the zodiacal arc up to the counter-evidence under lowland conditions.

In order to avoid interference from artificial light, green lasers are prohibited. Laptops may only be operated with red foil and all white light, e.g. B. by cars is to be avoided and can lead to dismissal.

In order to make the good astronomical conditions at the Jeßnigk venue near Herzberg usable all year round, the AstroTeam Elbe-Elster eV association, in addition to the HTT, organizes smaller observer meetings for the interested population at other new moon times of the year and has been setting up the Elsterland on the HTT-Nordwiese since late autumn 2009 - Observatory ( Elsterland Observatory , K59 ). This new observatory was built without public / state funding, exclusively with sponsorship money and funds from the association and has state-of-the-art equipment that can otherwise only be found at research observatories (e.g. magnetic drive of the mount instead of motorized tracking) and a weather station, which makes its measurement data available on the Internet almost every minute.

Ralf Hofner (1960–2014), amateur astronomer and founder of the HTT, the asteroid 2007 TC185, discovered in 2007 by Martin Fiedler at the Adolph Diesterweg public observatory in Radebeul , Saxony , was named (400309) Ralfhofner in 2016 in honor of him.
