Emília Miret i Soler (* 1892 in Barcelona ; † after August 8, 1941 ) was a Catalan classical pianist, music teacher and composer. She was one of the classic representatives of the Catalan pianist school .

life and work

At the age of 8, Emília Miret enrolled at the Escola Municipal de Música de Barcelona for piano with Joan Baptista Pellicer and composition with Joan Lamote de Grignon . In 1909 she received first prize in a competition at the Barcelona Conservatory. The following year she gave her first concert at the Cercle Artístic in Barcelona. In 1911 she received a scholarship from the city of Barcelona to study the piano in Brussels. There she completed studies with Adolphe Wouters , won first prize at the Brussels Conservatory and graduated with distinction.

Miret gave several concerts in Belgium and returned to Barcelona in 1914. Here she gave concerts with various concert societies , with the Orquestra simfònica de Barcelona and with the Associació de Música de Cambra (Chamber Music Society ). Since 1925 she has been the first female pianist to give live-broadcast piano concerts at Ràdio Barcelona every two weeks . In 1925 she founded her own academy, the Acadèmia de Música Miret , in Barcelona. On May 14, 1939, she appeared as a soloist at the last public concert with the Banda Municipal de Barcelona ( Barcelona City Orchestra) under Joan Lamote de Grignon , before the latter had to leave Barcelona for political reasons.

Miret composed several works for voice and piano.

Exact dates of birth and death of Emília Miret are not known. Emília Miret's biographies generally assume Barcelona as the place of birth. The fact that no exact date of birth can be determined there speaks, along with other indicators according to Joan Alemany i Moya, that Emília Miret comes from Vilanova i la Geltrú, 40 kilometers south of Barcelona . In the press releases of the early 20th century, Emília Miret appears as a married woman under the name Emília Miret d'Escudiet . Emília Miret had her last public concert on Radio Barcelona on August 8, 1941.

In 2011 the city of Barcelona named the public gardens between Carrers Robert Gerhard , Lamote de Grignon and Rosa Leveroni as Jardines de Emília Miret i Soler in honor of Emília Miret .
