Ema Zajmović (* 1990 ) is a Bosnian - Canadian poker player . In 2017, she became the first and so far only woman to win an open main event on the World Poker Tour .
Personal
Zajmović fled Yugoslavia to Canada with her family at the age of six . There she grew up bilingual and taught as a teacher , the subjects French and English .
Poker career
Zajmović has been participating in renowned live tournaments since 2011 .
In July 2016 , Zajmović was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas and finished in 929th place in the main event for $ 15,000 in prize money. In mid-November 2016, she reached the final table at the Main Event of the World Poker Tour (WPT) in Kahnawake . There she landed in fifth place and received more than 100,000 Canadian dollars . In the same place, Zajmović won the WPT Playground Main Event in February 2017 . For this she prevailed against 379 other players and received a prize of 241,500 Canadian dollars. This made her the first woman to win an open WPT Main Event and for this achievement she received the Moment of the Year 2017 award at the American Poker Awards in Los Angeles in late February 2018 . In mid-April 2018, Zajmović reached the final table of the WPT Main Event again and took second place in Amsterdam for more than 100,000 euros in prize money. She achieved the same placement at the WPT Main Event in Kahnawake in early November 2018 and after losing heads-up to her compatriot Patrick Serda, she received her highest prize money of 556,000 Canadian dollars.
In total, Zajmović has earned more than one million dollars with poker in live tournaments and is therefore in second place behind Almedin Imširović in the ranking of the most successful Bosnian poker players .
