Emad Burnat is a Palestinian film director , cameraman and film producer who was nominated for an Oscar in 2013 .

life and career

Emad Burnat began as a cameraman in the documentary keywords by Guy Davidi . The following year he worked with Davidi on the documentary 5 Broken Cameras as a producer and director and was jointly responsible for the camera. For this film, the two received the prize for best documentary at the Jerusalem Film Festival . He alone received the Directing Award in the World Cinema - Documentary category at the Sundance Film Festival . In addition, the film was nominated for Best Documentary at the 2013 Academy Awards. This was the first nomination for a Palestinian.

When Burnat flew from Turkey to Los Angeles on the occasion of his Oscar nomination, an incident occurred at Los Angeles International Airport when entering the USA , in which he and his family had to go straight to an interrogation room after passport control.

Emad Burnat is married and has four sons.
