5 Broken Cameras ( Arabic خمس كاميرات محطمة, DMG Ḫams Kāmīrāt Muḥaṭṭama ; Hebrew חמש מצלמות שבורות Hamesh Matslemot Shvurot ) is a 94-minute documentary directed by Palestinian Emad Burnat and Israeli Guy Davidi . It was presented at film festivals in 2011 and then shown in international cinema distribution. 5 Broken Cameras describes firsthand the protest of a village community in the place called Bil'in on the West Bank , which is directly affected by the Israeli settlement construction.
The film was shot by Emad Burnat, who bought his first camera in 2005 on the occasion of the birth of his youngest son and documented the protest movement with this and four other cameras until 2011. In 2009, the Israeli co-producer Guy Davidi joined the project. Divided into the time periods of the cameras up to their respective destruction during the confrontations with the Israeli military, the film shows Burnat's family members against the background of the protest movement over the course of five years.
The film won various awards, such as the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and the Golden Apricot . In the same year it was nominated for an Oscar in the category of best documentary and awarded for best documentary at the Armenian Yerevan International Film Festival . In 2013 he received the International Emmy Award .
