Emanuel Abbühl

Emanuel Abbühl (* in Bern ) is a Swiss oboist, conductor and oboe teacher.

Life

Abbühl studied oboe with André Lardrot in Basel and Heinz Holliger in Freiburg im Breisgau . In 1986 he won 3rd prize at the Prague Spring International Music Competition in the Czech Republic and awards at the international competitions in 1981 in Munich ( ARD music competition ) and 1982 in Geneva .

Abbühl was principal oboist with the Basler Sinfonieorchester from 1992, principal oboist with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra from 1997 and moved to the same position with the London Symphony Orchestra in 2006. Since 1994 he has played as a guest soloist with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.

Emanuel Abbühl has been teaching at the Rotterdam Conservatory since 1988 , and in 2005 he became professor at the State University of Music in Mannheim and professor at the Basel University of Music.

He has given master classes in Japan, Korea, Paris (CNSM), Germany, Spain, Melbourne (Australian National Academy), Mexico (Universidad Nacional), London (Royal Academy), Manchester (Northern College).

Discography

Emanuel Abbühl recorded Antonio Vivaldi's oboe concerts with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta in 2004 .
