Emanuel joke
Emanuel Witz (born June 27, 1717 in Biel ; † December 11, 1797 there ) was a Swiss painter .
Life
Witz started out as a scribe and then got into drawing through his brother, a sculptor . He then received drawing lessons from Johann Rudolf Huber in Bern . In 1738 he moved to Paris , where he continued his training under the guidance of the painter Louis Galloche . He was friends with Edmé Bouchardon , François Boucher , Pierre-Jacques Cazes, Charles-Joseph Natoire and Charles André van Loo. He then worked in Spain and Portugal as a portrait , history and genre painter . After getting into trouble in Spain, he returned to Biel around 1760.
