Emanuel von Korff

Emanuel Karl Heinrich von Schmysingk called Korff (born May 31, 1826 in Schönbruch , East Prussia ; † February 5, 1903 in Rönnebeck , Altmark ) was a Prussian officer and travel writer.

Life

Korff was the son of Friedrich Wilhelm von Korff (1797–1871) and his wife Agnes zu Eulenburg (1803–1890).

After his training in the cadet institutions of Culm and Berlin , he joined the Royal Prussian Cadet Corps (→ Kadettenhaus ).

Korff was soon able to distinguish himself and in 1844 switched to active service with the rank of ensign. In 1847 he was promoted to officer. After the Franco-Prussian War he reached the high point of his career when he was appointed commander of the Uhlan Regiment No. 15 in Strasbourg .

Korff married Blanca Meyerbeer (1832-1896), a daughter of the composer Giacomo Meyerbeer and his wife Minna Mosson. They had a son, Friedrich von Korff (1858–1898). The geologist Ferdinand Leopold von Andrian-Werburg and the painter Gustav Richter were his brothers-in-law.

In February 1880 it was put up for disposal . He received in addition to a pension from Emperor Friedrich III. also permission to continue to appear in regimental uniform. In May 1894, Korff was retired with the rank of major general.

At the age of almost 77, Emanuel von Korff died on February 5, 1903 on the estate of a family friend and found his final resting place in the Rönnebeck cemetery.
