Emblethis denticollis is a bug fromthe Rhyparochromidae family .

features

The bugs are 5.5 to 7.0 millimeters long. The bugs of the genus Emblethis are straw-colored with a dark pattern. Emblethis denticollis can be distinguished from the very similar Emblethis griseus by the shorter first segment of the tarsi of the hind legs, which is 1.5 times as long as the second and third tarsi combined. Also Emblethis denticollis somewhat elongated more.

distribution and habitat

The species is widespread and occurs throughout the Palearctic and is only absent in the north. In Germany it is only absent in the north-west, but is more common in the east, but overall it is only detected locally. For some years now, the species has been expanding its range in northwestern Europe. In Austria it has so far only been documented from the east. The species is not common, but can sometimes be very numerous locally. The species mainly inhabits sunny, open habitats, where it lives in the litter and on sandy and loamy soils. The species occurs very often in eutrophic places in the cultivated landscape between ruderal vegetation with vegetation of cruciferous plants (Brassicaceae), knotweed plants (Polygonaceae) and sunflower plants (Asteraceae).

Way of life

The animals suck on seeds on the ground and are apparently not dependent on any special plant species. In at least some areas there are two generations per year. The adults overwinter, the first generation is adult from June or July, the second from August or September.
