Emeka Okoronkwo (born July 1, 1988 in Ahoado , Nigeria ; † May 2, 2010 in Frankfurt am Main , Germany ) was a Nigerian who was killed by manslaughter after an act of moral courage . He had lived in Hessen for 13 years and was preparing for an apprenticeship as a restaurant specialist at the Kolping Educational Center .

Circumstances of death

On May 2, 2010, he intervened when two women were molested by two men from Eritrea on Münchener Strasse in Frankfurt am Main and asked to have sexual intercourse with obscenities. The women came from the “Chango” salsa disco on Münchener Strasse and, like the unknown Okoronkwo, were waiting for a tram at the nearby tram station when two more men arrived. They approached the women around 6:40 am and urged them to have intercourse. When the women refused to accept the Africans, they became aggressive and one of them spat at the women. Okoronkwo intervened and a scuffle broke out. One of the men drew a knife and stabbed Okoronkwo in the chest. Okoronkwo succumbed to his severe injuries to the heart chamber a few hours later in a Frankfurt hospital. The perpetrator was arrested at his home four days later. He spoke to the judge about self-defense. On June 6, 2011 the offender was sentenced to nine and a half years imprisonment by the Frankfurt am Main Regional Court (22nd criminal chamber).
