Emil Reisinger

Emil Christian Reisinger (born July 5, 1958 in Linz , Upper Austria) is an Austrian internist , infectiologist and tropical medicine specialist .

Life

Reisinger studied medicine at the Medical Faculty of the University of Vienna , where he also received his doctorate . After assistant positions at the Hamburg Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (1986–1988), at the Hygiene Institute of the University of Innsbruck (1988–1989) and at the Medical Clinic of the University of Graz (1989–1992), he became a specialist in internal medicine in 1992. In the same year he completed his habilitation in this subject. In 1994 Reisinger became senior physician in charge of general internal medicine at the Graz University Clinic. In 1997 he was appointed associate professor in Graz. In 1997/98 he completed a research stay at theUniversity of California, Los Angeles , in 1999 he was appointed professor of internal medicine, infection and tropical medicine at the University of Rostock . In 2007 he completed a master's degree ( Master of Business Administration ) at the Lübeck University of Applied Sciences .

From 2002 to 2006 Reisinger was the dean of studies at the Medical Faculty of the University of Rostock, from 2006 to 2019 its dean . From 2012 to 2019 he was Scientific Director and Deputy Chairman of the Rostock University Medical Center . Since 2016 Reisinger has also been chairman of the scientific advisory board and member of the board of trustees of the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg. From 2014 to 2016 Reisinger was President of the Paul Ehrlich Society for Chemotherapy (PEG).

Scientific work

Emil Reisinger is the author and co-author of numerous scientific publications. At the Rostock Department of Tropical Medicine, headed by him, a. Experimental research on therapies for schistosomiasis as well as diagnostic procedures and therapy control for Pneumocystis jirovecii infections. In the field of clinical research, Reisinger's department u. a. Involved in studies on vaccines , especially the influenza vaccine . In 2018 he was the lead author of a phase II study of a live vaccine against chikungunya fever .
