Emil Robert-Hansen
Emil Robert-Hansen , baptized Robert Emil Hansen , (born February 25, 1860 in Copenhagen , † July 18, 1926 in Frederiksberg ) was a Danish cellist , composer and conductor .
Life
Emil Robert-Hansen was initially tutored by his father and made his first public appearance as a cellist in Copenhagen at the age of eleven. In 1873 there was a first joint appearance with his younger sister Agnes Adler , a talented pianist with whom he also performed frequently in the following years. From 1874 Albert Rüdinger and Franz Neruda taught him at the Copenhagen Conservatory , two years later Friedrich Grützmacher accepted him as a student in Dresden. In 1877 he returned to Copenhagen and joined the Royal Chapel there, of which he was a member until 1889. After a long period of study in London , Emil Robert-Hansen was appointed solo cellist in the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra in 1892 , and he also taught as a professor at the local conservatory . In 1918, after the end of the First World War, he took over the management of the Aarhus Municipal Symphony Orchestra .

Emil Robert-Hansen also developed compositional activities early on. His 1st symphony in D minor was premiered in Copenhagen in 1880, followed by a 2nd symphony in Leipzig in 1892. He also wrote a cello concerto (1881), a piano concerto (1885), chamber music and songs. In 1911 his opera Frauenlist had its world premiere in Sondershausen , and in 1913 the operetta Die wilde Komtesse in Eisenach .
