Tisdale is a small town in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan with a population of 3,180 people (2011).
geography
Tisdale is about 40 kilometers east of Melfort and 60 kilometers south of Nipawin . The connecting roads Saskatchewan Highway 35 and Saskatchewan Highway 3 cross in place. Tisdale is served by the Canadian National Railway and the Canadian Pacific Railway .
history
Because of the fertile soil, settlers settled in the area. The infrastructure continued to develop positively with the connection to the Canadian Northern Railway in 1904 . The city was officially founded in 1920. The place was named in honor of the railroad worker Frederick W. Tisdale.
Tisdale is important in the province of Saskatchewan for the cultivation of rapeseed ( rape ) and the extraction of honey ( honey ). For over 60 years, the city therefore advertised with the slogan : Land of Rape and Honey (The Land of Rape and Honey). But since rape also means rape in the English language , there were often misunderstandings. In autumn 2015, the city administration decided to change the slogan to: Opportunity Grows Here , freely translated as “Here opportunities grow”. In addition to the saying, a sun, a green field and ears of corn can be seen on the new logo. In 2006, Tisdale and the surrounding area produced more than four million kilograms of honey, which is around 10% of total Canadian production. As a tourist attraction, the oversized sculpture of a honey bee ( World's Largest Honey Bee ) is set up in the village .
