Emil Schmid (judge)

Emil Schmid (born January 17, 1908 in Adelboden ; † August 12, 1992 in Uttigen , reformed , resident in Frutigen ) was a Swiss federal judge .

Life

Emil Schmid, son of David Emil Schmid and Anna nee Feller, studied law at the University of Bern . In 1933 he obtained the notary's license. At the beginning of his professional career, he was employed from 1933 to 1938 as a clerk , debt enforcement and bankruptcy clerk for the Obersimmental district . Immediately afterwards, Schmid served as the court president in Konolfingen until 1944 . In 1945 he was elected Chief Justice by the Bernese Grand Council . Schmid held this office until 1959.

On October 1, 1959, Emil Schmid was elected to the Federal Court on the proposal of the BGB parliamentary group . He worked there from 1960 to 1970 as a judge in the 2nd civil department, from 1971 to 1974 in the 1st civil department and the Extraordinary Court of Cassation and from 1964 to 1970 as a member of the Federal Criminal Court . In 1974 he announced his resignation.

Emil Schmid - he served in the Swiss Army with the rank of major - married Dora, née Studer, in 1934. Schmid died in 1992 at the age of 85.
