Emil Sondermann

Emil Sondermann ( October 16, 1852 in Berlin , Kingdom of Prussia - August 29, 1927 in Berlin, German Empire ) was a German singer, theater and film actor as well as theater , film director , screenwriter and film producer .

Life

He began his career in Berlin at the suburban theater . In 1879 he played in Görlitz , after which he moved to the Zentralhallentheater in Hamburg . From 1880 to 1881 he made guest appearances in Breslau and from 1883 to 1885 at the Residenztheater in Hanover . In 1887 he moved to the Carl-Schultze-Theater in Hamburg, where he worked as an actor, singer and director. In 1899 he went to the Berlin Central Theater. There he was also the main director. In Eisenberg's assessment he was " perhaps better known in provincial Germany than in Berlin itself ". He often played counts and bon vivants. He was married to the actress Therese Delma , who also worked at the Central Theater from 1889.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Sondermann worked as an actor and singer at the Berlin Thalia Theater until the outbreak of the First World War . a. worked with Jean Gilbert . In 1915 he began his acting career in film. When Sondermann died in the summer of 1927, he was remembered in obituaries. In the 1928 stage yearbook it was stated:

“The artist, who had almost completely withdrawn from the stage in recent years, was one of the best representatives of the character comic subject in the great days of operetta. (...) In addition to his great talent for comic roles, he also knew how to strike serious tones, and his fine characterization in comedy and farce (...) was a performance that was particularly famous because of him the "Geisha" in which he played hundreds of times. For years he was the artistic focus of the antics and operetta repertoire at the Berlin Thalia Theater. "
