Emil Zimmermann (philologist)

Emil Zimmermann (born January 9, 1850 in Elbing ; † 1915 ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher in East Prussia.

Life

Zimmermann visited the Athenaeum Elbingense . From 1870 he studied classical philology at the Albertus University in Königsberg . In the meantime he took part in the Franco-German War . At the Albertus University he was a full member of the philological and pedagogical seminars. Two years after he had passed the teaching examination, he became a member of the Corps Hansea Königsberg , founded in 1877 . He completed the first half of the probationary year at the Realgymnasium at the castle in Königsberg , the second at the Kgl. High school in Rastenburg . He remained in Rastenburg as a scientific assistant teacher, full teacher (1879) and senior teacher (1886). During those years he studied the grammar of Marcus Tullius Cicero in depth . With the four-part publication he was awarded Dr. phil. PhD. In the following years he devoted himself to the language models Sallust , Titus Livius and Tacitus . A grammar school professor since 1896, he was transferred to Gumbinnen in 1898 to represent the sick director at the Friedrichs grammar school . At Easter 1899 he went to the Royal Wilhelms-Gymnasium in Königsberg . He retired on July 1, 1904 at the age of 54.
