Emile Boreo

Emile Boreo (* 1885 in Poland , † July 27, 1951 in New York City , New York ) was an American actor in theater and film. He became known in the 1930s for his roles in films such as The Street Singer or A Lady Disappears .

life and career

Emile Boreo, born in Poland in 1885, enjoyed success as a limehouse actor on Broadway in the 1920s in the role of Pagliacci in revues such as Chauve Souris in the Parade of the Wooden Soldiers alongside Nelson Keys. He worked as a comedian and singer in the vaudeville theater and delighted the club audience with artistic recitals. In the spring of 1940 he played very successfully alongside Lee J. Cobb , Lenore Ulric , Katherine Locke , Arnold Moss in numerous performances of the play The Fifth Column by Ernest Hemingway at the Broadhurst Theater in New York City.

In England , Emile Boreo only appeared in a few films as an actor, including 1937 under the direction of Jean de Marguenat in the musical The Street Singer in the role of Luigi alongside other actors such as Arthur Tracy , Arthur Riscoe , Margaret Lockwood or Hugh Wakefield . A year later he was cast by the director Alfred Hitchcock in his successful crime comedy A Lady Disappears , where he again acted alongside Margaret Lockwood. There he played as a comedian the stressed hotel manager Boris, who is exposed to the circumstance of having to entertain international guests of an avalanche-buried train at short notice in his completely overcrowded hotel.

In Edgar G. Ulmer's musical drama Carnegie Hall , he was seen in his last role in the cinema in 1947. Emile Boreo died on July 27, 1951 in New York City.
