The Normandy was a ferry of the Irish Ferries shipping company .

history

The ship was ordered by Rederi AB Göteborg - Frederikshavns Linjen from the Götaverken Arendal shipyard in Gothenburg . The new building was originally due to be delivered in 1981, but work on the ship was slowed down when Stena Line took over the commissioning shipping company . After it was launched on May 22, 1981, work continued until the end of the same year. In December, the finished ship by the name was GV 909 initially at the shipyard in Arendal and from 1982 in Gothenburg launched . On May 3, 1982, the Stena Sessan Line in Gothenburg took over the ship, and on June 3, 1982 it finally began operating between Gothenburg and Frederikshavn . On February 28, 1983 Sealink chartered the ship for three years. In June of the same year the ship was sold and renamed St. Nicholas . From June 10, 1983 it drove between Harwich and Hoek van Holland on the English Channel .

In January 1997 Tallink chartered the ship and renamed it Normandy . On March 24, the ship sailed between Tallinn and Helsinki under the Estonian flag . The charter ended on December 30, 1997. The ship was now sailing under the flag of the Bahamas , home port was Nassau . From January 1998 Irish Ferries chartered the ship, which then began operations on February 19 between Pembroke Dock and Rosslare . On April 1, 1998, the ship sailed on the routes Cork / Rosslare - Roscoff / Cherbourg . From 1999 the ship sailed under the flag of Bermuda , home port was Hamilton . Irish Ferries bought the ship on November 10, 1999.

On November 4, 2007, the ship last arrived in Rosslare . On November 5, 2007, it was transferred to Fredericia . On January 28, 2008, it was sold to Equinox Offshore Accommodation Ltd in Singapore . Ferrimaroc chartered the ship in March 2008 and from April to September 2008 it sailed between Almería and Nador . On October 19, 2008 the ship arrived back in Singapore.

On September 11, 2012, the ship was sold to India for scrapping . It arrived in Alang on November 30, 2012 for demolition.

The Normandy had a sister ship , as Kronprinsessan Victoria built Stena Europe .
