Emile Louis Marie Baron Tibbaut (alternative spelling: Thibbaut ; born June 12, 1862 in Kalken , East Flanders Province , † December 19, 1935 in Paris ) was a Belgian Catholic politician who was a member of the Chamber of Deputies between 1898 and 1935 and President from 1928 to 1930 the Chamber of Deputies was.

Life

After attending the Sint-Jozefscollege in Aalst, Tibbaut completed a law degree at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and worked as a lawyer in Ghent after graduating . He began his political career in 1896 when he was elected as a representative of the Catholics to the municipal council of Ghent and was a member of it until 1899. On January 2, 1898, he was elected to succeed Phillippe De Kepper, who died on November 24, 1897, for the first time as a member of the Belgian Chamber of Deputies, to which he belonged for almost 38 years until his death on December 19, 1935 and in which he represented the interests of the Arrondissement Dendermonde represented. During the First World War he was active between 1914 and 1918 as chairman of the agricultural department of the National Aid and Food Committee NHVC / CNSA ( Nationaal Hulp- en Voedselcomité / Comité National de Secours et d'Alimentation ) and was also chairman of its High Agriculture Council.

On November 28, 1918, Tibbaut became Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies and held this position for almost ten years until August 16, 1928. In 1921 he was raised to the nobility as a baron and was also chairman of the farmers' union ( Werk van den Akker ) from 1927 to 1935 .

As the successor to Emile Brunet , Tibbaut became President of the Chamber of Deputies on August 16, 1928 and remained in this position as President of Parliament until he was replaced by Jules Poncelet on November 5, 1930 . On April 8, 1930, he was awarded the honorary title of Minister of State for his longstanding political services . Most recently, from 1934 until his death in the following year, he was also a member of the General Assembly of the Katholikenbund ( Katholiek Verbond van België / Union Catholique Belge ).
