Emilie Hucht (born March 30, 1920 in Mannheim ; † April 7, 2014 there ) was a German local politician . After the Second World War , she was the initiator and pioneer of youth and social work in Mannheim for decades .

Life

Emilie Hucht grew up as the daughter of a shoemaker in Mannheim's Schwetzingerstadt . Although she was a gifted student, her parents could not allow her to attend high school. She attended the language class of the Schiller School and then at the age of 14 the sewing school of the Niederbronn sisters . From 1939 to 1945 and later again between 1954 and 1979, Emilie Hucht worked in the personnel department of a larger company.

Emilie Hucht was deeply convinced of the Christian faith, especially of Catholic social teaching , and therefore stood up for the socially disadvantaged and disadvantaged throughout her life. She acquired the Missio canonica and gave extracurricular religious instruction in addition to her professional activity.

In her youth, she got to know the Caritas employee Line Eid in a singing group , who bravely got involved in Catholic youth work during the Nazi era and also maintained songs from the youth movement that were officially forbidden in the singing group she founded . In 1945 Emilie Hucht succeeded Line Eid as the full-time dean's youth leader for Catholic youth in Mannheim. There she concentrated her work in the post-war years in particular on the (re) development of Christian youth work and was co-founder of the youth association of Christian workers' youth (CAJ). She carried out this activity until 1954.

Hucht was also involved in local politics for more than 20 years . From 1968 to 1989 she was a CDU member of the city council in Mannheim and, as “the social conscience of the CDU”, was always especially committed to the interests of the workforce, except for youth work. Emilie Hucht played a key role in founding the youth professional aid associations "Förderband eV" and "Arbeit für alle eV". In the mid-1980s, she gave the impetus for various charities to come together to form a sponsoring association for the new community center in the Jungbusch district, a completely new approach at the time.

Because of its closeness to the citizens, straightforwardness and reliability, it was valued across party lines. Emilie Hucht has been honored several times for her many years of diverse political and social engagement. In 1980 she received the “Citizens Medal” and in 2000 the Ring of Honor of the City of Mannheim . On October 23, 1987 she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon by Hermann Mühlbeyer , the then Stuttgart State Secretary in the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs .

Emilie Hucht died in Mannheim in April 2014 at the age of 94.
