Metropolitan Emmanuel

Emmanuel (Adamakis) ( Greek Εμμανουήλ Αδαμάκης ; * December 19, 1958 in Agios Nikolaos , Crete , Greece ) is Metropolitan of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of France ( Métropole orthodoxe grecque de France ) and the representative of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to the European Union .

After attending school in Heraklion , he first studied at the Institut Catholique de Paris and at the Institut de Théologie Orthodoxe Saint-Serge in Paris. This was followed by postgraduate studies at the Sorbonne and at the Institut Supérieur d'Etudes Oecuméniques de l'Institut Catholique de Paris.

He was ordained a priest in 1985. He then studied at Holy Cross College in Brookline (Massachusetts) , where he received his master's degree in 1987. He then became Vicar General of the Metropolitan Region of Belgium, based in Brussels , where he also worked as a parish priest. Since the establishment of this office in 1995 he has been the representative of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to the European Union in Brussels. On September 5, 1996, he became Titular Bishop of Reggio and Auxiliary Bishop of the Metropolitan Region of Belgium. On January 20, 2003, he was elected Metropolitan of France by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

He is currently one of the representatives of Christianity on the board of directors of the King Abdullah Center for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue in Vienna . He is one of the three members of the Presidium of the Conference of European Churches and its Vice-President.
