Emmanuel Hyacinth Babayaro (born December 26, 1976 in Kaduna ) is a former Nigerian football player . He participated in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta .

Career

Babayaro began playing football in central midfield as a teenager. His brother Celestine advised him to change to the position of goalie. At the U-17 soccer world championship in 1993 he was world champion with the Nigerian U-17 team. At the age of 16 he was in the squad for Plateau United FC , but had no appearances during this time. At the 1996 Summer Olympics, he was in the squad of the Nigerian team, but was not used. After the Olympic Games, he moved to Besiktas Istanbul for two seasons . But he had the Croatian Marjan Mrmjé in goal. During this time Besiktas won the Turkish Cup .

After the career

In 2015 he became General Manager of Kabune United for three years . Before that he was the director of the Pioneers Academy .

Private

His brothers Ibrahim Babangida, Haruna Babangida , Tijani Babangida and Celestine Babayaro are also soccer players. With his brother Celestine he won the gold medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
