Tijani Babangida (born September 25, 1973 in Kaduna ) is a former Nigerian soccer player .

Career as a player

Babangida came to the Netherlands at the age of 17 and was signed by Roda Kerkrade . After the winger and a half years on loan at VVV Venlo had spent, he played for Roda. He was signed by Ajax Amsterdam , but gradually lost his place and was loaned to various clubs. After he was not considered for the 2002 World Cup , he signed a six-month loan deal with Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia in 2002 , but left the team in November after disagreements with the coach. He moved to China to play for Changchun Yatai .

He played 40 international matches and scored five goals for the Nigerian national soccer team and played in the 1998 World Cup . He also won the 1996 Olympic gold medal .

Personal

Two of his nine brothers, Ibrahim Babangida and Haruna Babangida , are also professional soccer players.

Career as an official

Since September 2013, Babangida has been president of Taraba FC, which was founded in 2007 and which, under his leadership, made it to the Nigerian Premier League .
