Emmerichsthal is a hamlet belonging to the Obersinn market in the Main-Spessart district in Lower Franconia .

geography

Emmerichsthal is located in the Spessart in the Steinbachtal near the Bavarian-Hessian border, surrounded by the forest aura .

history

The name is reminiscent of the Mainz Bishop and Elector Emmerich Joseph von Breidbach zu Bürresheim , under whose reign a glassworks was built in the Steinbachtal, a side valley of the Jossa , from 1765 to 1768 . The rich tree population was ideal as a fuel for the production of glass .

The first documented mention of a settlement at the same place is found in 1303-13 under the name Steinbach . Friedrich von Hutten then acquired from the Bishop of Wurzburg Andreas von Gundelfingen the tithe . The small settlement was abandoned in the 16th century and with it the old place name Steinbach. This fate was not repeated when, in 1826, the glassworks were stopped after the variable success of various tenants. The employees who became unemployed as a result expanded the already parallel part-time occupation in agriculture and forestry to become their main occupation; quite a few were able to stay on site with their families.

In 1814 Emmerichsthal came to the Kingdom of Bavaria .

In 1862 the district office Gemünden am Main was formed, on whose administrative area Emmerichsthal lay. In 1872 the Gemünden District Office was incorporated into the Lohr am Main District Office . It was not until 1902 that the Gemünden District Office was re-established. In 1939, as everywhere in the German Reich, the designation district was introduced. Emmerichsthal now belonged to the district of Gemünden am Main (license plate GEM ). With the dissolution of the district of Gemünden in 1972, Emmerichsthal came into the newly formed district of Main-Spessart (license plate KAR , from 1979 MSP ).

Transport links

Emmerichsthal can be reached from Obersinn after 5 km or from Jossa via the L 3196 after 3.9 km. The next train stations on the Flieden – Gemünden railway line are in Jossa , Obersinn and Mittelinn .
