Empuriabrava ( Spanish Ampuriabrava ) is a suburb of the municipality of Castelló d'Empúries on the Gulf of Roses in the province of Girona in Catalonia ( Spain ). The settlement, located about two kilometers from Castelló d'Empúries on the Costa Brava , was founded in 1967 and has around 7873 inhabitants (2011).

Empuriabrava has the largest marina in Europe. A grid-like network of navigable canals with a total of over 30 kilometers in length and around 5,000 ship berths is characteristic of the site . Most of the houses have direct access to the canals and jetties.

economy

Since Empuriabrava was built directly for tourism, this forms the main source of income for the place. In addition to numerous restaurants and shops, there are many companies in Empuriabrava that manufacture and sell yachts , as well as boat rentals, sailing , surfing and diving schools . It is also a popular place for skydivers as it has an airfield ( ICAO code LEAP). The gently sloping, fine sandy beach of Platja d'Empuriabrava is around 1.6 kilometers long and one of the widest on the Costa Brava. The season guests come mainly from France and Germany , less often from the Netherlands or Great Britain .

Culture

On the occasion of the Diada del Carme holiday , numerous events take place every year on July 16 in Empuriabrava, such as regattas , parachute shows, exhibitions, sardana dances, habaneras and sardine meals.
