En Karmel ( Hebrew עֵין כַּרְמֶל ʿEjn Karmel ) is a kibbutz on Israel's Carmel coast near Atlit . En Karmel has a population of 915 as of 2018 and is located about 15 kilometers south of Haifa on the Haifa – Tel Aviv highway .
En Karmel was founded in 1950 through the merger of the residents of the former kibbutz En HaJam with a group of kibbutzniks from Ramat Rachel near Jerusalem. The name of the kibbutz refers to the location at the foot of the Carmel Mountains .
The Nachal Me'arot nature reserve is located near En Karmel . In the Nachal Me'arot, important finds from prehistoric times were made, which prove that the caves there (including Skhul ) had been inhabited for around 200,000 years.
