Enfer d'Arvier
Enfer d'Arvier is a wine-growing region in the Aosta Valley region in Italy . The zone has had the status of a Denominazione di origine controllata (DOC for short) since July 30, 1985 . The cultivation area in Arvier on the left side of the Dora Baltea river resembles a natural amphitheater , in which temperatures can rise very high in summer. The word Enfer ( French for hell ) alludes to this fact.
The red wine becomes from 85 to 100% from the grape variety Petit Rouge grapes. Other permitted grape varieties are Vien de Nus , Neyret , Dolcetto , Pinot nero and Gamay , the proportion of which is between 0 and 15%. The wine can therefore be made from at least one ( single variety ) or blended at most 6 different grape varieties . The Enfer d'Arvier is stored at the winemaker for at least six months. Top qualities are aged in oak or chestnut barrels for up to five years .
