Engelbert Lagler

Engelbert Lagler (born July 12, 1939 in Wels ) is an officer in the Austrian Armed Forces . He was in command of the II Corps in Salzburg, most recently in the rank of general .

Life

Engelbert Lagler was born on July 12, 1939 in Wels. After he passed the high school diploma in Wels in 1957, he moved in October 1957 to the artillery at the Schwarzenberg barracks in Salzburg.

After graduating from the Military Academy in Enns and the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt , he retired as an officer ( ensign ) in 1961 for Feldjäger Battalion 13 in Ried im Innkreis - the later Panzer Grenadier Battalion 13 .

From 1963 to 1964 he attended several officer training courses in the USA until he switched to the hunter school in Saalfelden as a heavy weapons teacher on his return to Austria. Later he was employed in this school as chief instructor for anti-tank defense.

As a general staff officer, he held various functions in the Federal Ministry . In 1975 he became commander of the 13th Panzer Grenadier Battalion in Ried im Innkreis . He then became chief of staff at the Salzburg Military Command and later at the II Corps.

In 1982 he took over the command of the Salzburg military command from Hans Riedl , which he did until he was appointed corps commander of the II Corps in 1994.

In this function he was responsible for the armies in the west. A total of around 12,000 soldiers, 2,600 wheeled vehicles and around 430 tracked vehicles were subordinate to the corps. On September 28, 2001, shortly before his retirement, Defense Minister Herbert Scheibner promoted him to general. He was succeeded by Major General Hubertus Trauttenberg .

Engelbert Lagler is the author of several books, articles, and contributions in the fields of training, tactics, and military policy. He is a member of the Troop Service Working Group .

He also completed a degree in educational science in Klagenfurt and Salzburg.
