Engtanz is the sixth studio album by the German singer and songwriter Bosse .

Content and production

Engtanz was released on the Vertigo Records label of the Universal Music Group . In addition to the standard version on CD, the album is also available on vinyl, a deluxe version and a limited deluxe box. The deluxe version also contains the live album Leise Landung on CD, the limited deluxe box contains the additional CD and a live DVD with the same title. The live recordings were made in December 2014 at a concert in the Admiralspalast in Berlin during the Die Kraniche acoustic tour 2014 . The deluxe box also contains a 40-page photo book about Leise Landung and a postcard set with motifs by Engtanz . The majority of the recordings for Engtanz were made by producer Philipp Steinke, as with the previous album Kraniche, in the Casa Garfagni studio in Umbria and in the Brandnewstudio in Berlin. Individual additional instruments were recorded in various other studios. Thematically, the lyrics are about missed opportunities and seized opportunities; of connections to others and to yourself.

The cover shows Axel Bosse in profile, looking to the right. He's wearing a dark t-shirt and appears to be in a music bar. A stage is out of focus in the background and balloons as decoration and a disco ball at the top of the picture . Julian Faudt and Stefan Mückner from We are Büro | Büro are responsible for the artwork. The booklet contains all the lyrics and photos, some of which were taken by Axel Bosse and others involved in the album. The booklet page opposite the lyrics shows (with one exception) a photographic still life, which illustrates the respective lyrics.

resonance

Kai Butterweck from laut.de is of the opinion that more could have been in it: “Lively rhythms and countless major passages make songs like Outside of Time , Your Hurray and the first single Steine shine in a bright light.” “A fast beat , a lot of fanfare in the background and catchy vocal lines ”, also distinguished the bedside lamp . For him, Engtanz sometimes overshoots the mark . Halfway through the album it got "more and more restless". "At times it sounds like the back line of Florence Welch has mixed pure adrenaline into the drinks."

“Man, man, you can do better than that.” Eric Mayer from Plattentests.de would also like to whisper to Bosse. Outside of that time, there would have been a lot of what made Bosse stand out that set his songs apart from radio uniformity. Unfortunately that didn't always work out on this album. Mayer is of the opinion: “What was still a bit cheesy in terms of content about cranes , but still fresh and moving, is now annoying in a number of places: There would be the first extraction of stones , which bathes palpably in interpersonal disharmony, the obligatory comparisons with stones and rubble but overused. ” Mordor , who told of departure and farewell, was opulently orchestrated despite the fine rhythm, good melody and all sorts of strings, keyboard surfaces and choirs, but still a rather sleepy record. Ultimately, he rates the album as average.
