Kraniche is the fifth studio album by the German singer and songwriter Bosse .

Emergence

"I don't look any more and just find."

- Bosses : cranes

After the exhausting tour (including laryngitis) with the previous album waiting room bosses went in 2012 for half a year with his daughter and his wife, who there as an actress for the Ökokomödie Entelköy worked to Istanbul. There he got inspiration for the new songs. All of the Kraniche songs were written by Axel Bosse himself in Istanbul, Umbria, Berlin and in the Wegwarte, Lucklum. Most of the album was recorded by Philipp Steinke in a remote country house, the Casa Garfagni in Umbria or in the Brandnewstudio, Berlin. The arrangements are more extensive than on the previous albums. For the songs Sophie , So oder So , Schönste Zeit and Konfetti , choirs by Valeska Steiner are sung by Boy and Valentine Romanski. The song Alter Affe Angst is reminiscent of Tarantino pieces. Bosse is supported by a string ensemble and Martin Wenk ( Calexico ) on the trumpet. Both recordings took place in the LowSwing Studio, Berlin. The song Istanbul , which is a declaration of love for the city, is accompanied by a saz .

Bosse published a video diary in five episodes with impressions of how cranes were made on YouTube on his BosseAxel channel.

Title, cover and booklet

The title of the album Kraniche came about for several reasons: Bosse observed the flight of the cranes during his time in Berlin and also as a child with his grandmother in Linum, which for him was the greatest natural spectacle of his life. He therefore dedicated a line in the song Kraniche to this experience of nature . For him, the song "summarizes the album in terms of text and music" and thus represents the centerpiece of the album. The title also takes up the many occurrences of natural terms (such as gooseberries) on the album. Bosse also liked the sound of the word cranes. In addition, the crane is a symbol of luck and longevity in Japanese mythology, which for bosses also went well with the content of the album. A main theme of the various songs is arriving, letting go, relaxing and slowing down life. Bosse himself describes the album as warmer than the previous album.

Bosses body disappears down in a kind of collage u. a. consisting of clouds, sea, a city illuminated at night, a street and a house roof. The lettering bosse can be read under the picture in black, with a crane flying over the e, the title of the album is written in dark red in capital letters. The booklet contains various photos: On the one hand, the audience at a festival, and impressions of Istanbul. The artwork of the booklet was realized by We Are Büro.

“There are few like bosses. He is a gifted observer and sensitive storyteller. The protagonists of his songs: close and so understandable. You really want to know more about them. His lines of text: snapshots which, in conjunction with his music, merge into perfect emotional head cinema. All this on “Kraniche” twelve times! In a wonderfully honest love song (brilliant), a rebuff to the speed maximization (four lives), in memory of the first love (most beautiful time) and constant bond in unconditional friendship (confetti). In celebratory chants for life (Istanbul), a plea for slowing down (idleness), the fight against one's own (old monkey fear) and foreign (family festival) demons. A concentrated portion of optimism (one way or another) and the incomprehensible discrepancy between appearance and reality (Sophie). Heralded by a musical prologue that sums up the whole spectrum of this album (Kraniche). "

Outcouplings

Best time

The best time was the first single from Kraniche, which was released in advance on February 15, 2013. The song reached number 29 in the official single charts in the first week.

The video was u. a. Shot near Alexanderplatz and in Görlitzer Park in Berlin. The actors were Franz Dinda , Alina Levshin and Ayşe Bosse (Bosses wife).

Either way

Either way was released as the second single on August 2, 2013.

With this song, Bosse won the Bundesvision Song Contest 2013 and reached number 25 in the German single charts.

Family celebration

A video with actress Fritzi Haberlandt was shot for the family festival song . Hendrik Handloegten directed the video. The song is about the gathering of a family that appears intact on the outside, but is seething inside.

criticism

“Schönste Zeit”, the first single, is a reminder of the spirit of discovery and the invulnerability of young people, a song that, with its pleasant melody and pleasant arrangement, tends to be a little too nostalgic. [...] All in all, the album is about knowledge - having to slow down life, being able to enjoy the moment, being able to overcome fears. This is wrapped up in melodies that balance the balance between melancholy and happy. The production by Philipp Steinke (Boy) ensures that the songs miss out on a pure radio favor. "

- Olaf Neumann : West German newspaper

“This also makes“ Kraniche ”a very philosophical album in which Bosse packs many of his thoughts. He enchants with stories that reflect life and is a loving chronicler of everyday life. Musically, Bosse cannot be pigeonholed. Emotional, sensitive, personable - definitely. But that in many facets: with Turkish instruments, as electropop in the style of Coldplay (“Sophie”), in the form of a piano ballad like “Confetti”. Even the bulky “Vive La Danse” knows how to please after a few runs. Bosses manage to maintain the high level of their predecessors "

“While Bosse was still waiting to be happy in“ Waiting Room ”, he seems to have found“ Cranes ”. The round album comes up with some musical surprises. Even if not all of the instrumental experiments succeed, the words from Axel Bosses pen are still extremely strong and almost automatically make films run in the mind's eye. With a few exceptions, the songs all seem much more elaborately produced than the previous material and give the album an almost international format without, however, abandoning the old virtues of Bosses too much.
