Enno Cirksena

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Enno Cirksena (also: Enno Edzardisna gen. Attena and Syardsna) (* around 1380 , † around 1450 ) was chief of the north , Greetsiel , Berum and Pilsum . He was the son of chief Edzard (II.) Von Appingen -Greetsiel and his wife Doda tom Brok . Enno and his sons Edzard and Ulrich Enno opposed chief Focko Ukena from 1430 in the Freedom League of the Seven East Friesland . Enno is therefore considered to be the pioneer of the Cirksena's claim to power over all of East Friesland , which his son Ulrich was finally given formally when he became an imperial county in 1464.

Enno's first wife is not documented. In his second marriage he married Gela Syardsna von Manslagt († 1455), a daughter of the powerful chief Affo Beninga von Pilsum . After Gela's only son from his first marriage, the chief Liudward Cirksena ("Syrtza") zu Berum died in the mid-30s of the 15th century without heirs, Gela and her niece Frauwa Cirksena ("Sirtzena") were the sole heirs of the Cirksena Berum. Enno took the opportunity and married his son from his first marriage, Edzard , to Frauwa. And he did another thing: he and Edzard took the family name and coat of arms of their wives to emphasize the line of succession.

The first marriage resulted in a son and a daughter:

  • Edzard († 1441 at the plague ), 1st marriage to Moeder Ennosna († 1438); 2. Marriage to Frouwe (Sydzena) von Berum
  • Doda (* around 1408, † 1478), married to Redward von Westerhusen

The children come from the second marriage:
