In some areas the Ennstaler Kreis has a pioneering role, for example “Austria's way into the European Economic Community ” was discussed under the leadership of Franz Nemschak as early as 1963 . Prominent politicians and entrepreneurs have played a very important role since the symposium was founded, for example Kurt Waldheim (1969), Franz Josef Strauss (1975), Otto von Habsburg (1991) and Karel Schwarzenberg (1992) and Claus Raidl (2002/2012) and Wolfgang Leitner (2003). In terms of ecumenism, there were also early lectures by Catholic (including Franz König and Egon Kapellari ) and Protestant dignitaries (including Gerhard May and Herwig Sturm ), and more recently also considerations of Islamism ( Bassam Tibi ).
