Enrico L. Quarantelli

Enrico Louis "Henry" Quarantelli (born November 10, 1924 in New York City , † April 2, 2017 ) was an American sociologist and pioneer of disaster sociology .

Quarantelli studied sociology at the University of Chicago and received his doctorate there in 1959 ( Ph. D. ). From 1963 to 1984 he was professor of sociology at Ohio State University , where he founded the renowned Disaster Research Center , and from 1985 to 1998 at the University of Delaware , where he transferred the DRC. As a broad-based empirical researcher and stimulator of further research, he developed numerous practical suggestions for disaster control .
