Enrico Sabbatini

Enrico Sabbatini (born January 7, 1932 in Spoleto , Umbria , Italy ; † November 25, 1998 near Ouarzazate , Morocco ) was an Italian costume designer and production designer .

biography

Enrico Sabbatini, specialist in lavish film adaptations of history and the Bible, but also theater plays, became very well known in Italy and internationally. Realism and historical accuracy were the hallmarks of the designer, who received an Oscar and BAFTA nomination for Mission in 1987 , both times in the Best Costume Design category .

But especially his work on Bible adaptations, including Moses - The Lawgiver , Jesus of Nazareth and The Bible - Joseph made Sabbatini world famous. During his career he worked for directors such as Vittorio De Sica , Franco Zeffirelli , Gianfranco De Bosio , Roger Young and Joseph Sargent .

His last work for a motion picture was the 1997 film Seven Years in Tibet , directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud .

He died in a traffic accident while filming the television film Cleopatra . Enrico Sabbatini was 66 years old.
