Enrique Mario Casella
Enrique Mario Casella (born August 1, 1891 in Montevideo , † December 10, 1948 in Tucumán ) was an Argentine composer.
Enrique Mario Casella was the son of the violinist and conductor Italo Casella . The family moved to Buenos Aires in 1896, where he studied at the Conservatory with Ferruccio Cattelani and Edmundo Pallemaerts . In 1907 he went to Europe, where he studied at the University of Music in Bologna with Angelo Consolini , Marco Enrico Bossi and Carpessani and from 1909 at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels with César Thompson , Paul Gilson and Maurice Staminat . In 1913 he completed his training in Paris with Paul Antoine Vidal and Foucher. From 1914 to 1918 he lived in Buenos Aires, then in Goya .
From 1920 he lived in Tucumán. There he became a professor at the Academia de Bellas Artes . With Luis Gianneo he founded the Instituto Musical Tucumán in 1922 . He also founded the Trío Tucumán in 1923 and the Cuarteto Tucumán in 1940 . From 1937 he was director of the Coro Santa Cecilia and the Banda Provincial de Música .
Casella composed a number of symphonic poems and other symphonic works, a violin and a piano concerto, operas and zarzuelas , ballets , film music, masses , choral works, chamber music and songs . His work was rediscovered by the conductor Lucio Bruno-Videla.
