Enrique Santiago
Enrique Santiago (* 1939 in Madrid ) is a Spanish violist .
Santiago attended the conservatory in his hometown, which he graduated with the Sarasate Prize in 1961 . Then he began additional studies with Max Rostal in Cologne . From 1967 he was principal violist in the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra , from 1972 in the symphony orchestra of Südwestfunk Baden-Baden and from 1978 in the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra . He also worked as a soloist with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields .
Santiago has been professor for viola at the Stuttgart University of Music since 1975 , and was its prorector from 1990 to 1996. In 1984 he gave up his work in the orchestra in favor of teaching and chamber music . Among other things, he works regularly with the Melos Quartet . Santiago was also a member of the Diabelli Trio named after Anton Diabelli , consisting of Willy Freivogel (flute), Enrique Santiago (viola) and Siegfried Schwab (guitar) with a repertoire that includes works of the Viennese classical music , but also compositions by Astor Piazolla and Scott Joplin and whose works are published by Melos Musik Verlag in Munich. Santiago is a founding member of the ensemble of the Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz in Mainz , on whose CD recordings he participated. In 1983 he was named Comendador de la Orden de Isabel la Católica by King Juan Carlos I for promoting Spanish music .
