Ensemble 415

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ensemble 415 was an instrumental baroque ensemble founded and directed in 1981 by the Swiss violinist Chiara Banchini in Geneva based on the model of the great Arcangelo Corellis orchestra.

history

The name of the ensemble indicates the pitch of the instrument tuning in Hertz in the Baroque and was at the same time the program of the formation. With this instrument tuning, the orchestra's performances aimed for historical authenticity. The performances were characterized by a strict technical approach based on philological criteria and using authentic historical instruments.

The ensemble presented masterpieces of the Italian Baroque as well as works by Luigi Boccherini and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart . A highlight of the ensemble's performances was the Stabat mater by Antonio Vivaldi together with the countertenor Andreas Scholl . In 2010 the orchestra made a major tour of Japan and the United States .

After 30 years of existence of the orchestra, Chiara Banchini gave a big farewell concert in the Stadtcasino Basel on January 8, 2011 with the orchestra and more than 60 musicians, including students and professors of the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis . The program included the Concerti Grossi by Arcangelo Corelli and the Armonico tributo by Georg Muffat .
