The ensemble marketplace in Hammelburg , a town in the Upper Bavarian district of Bad Kissingen , is an architectural ensemble , under monument stands.

The targeted expansion of the settlement into a city by the abbots of Fulda began in the course of the 13th century, whereby two old parts of the settlement, a manor and a merchant's settlement were merged. The expansion ended in 1303 with the granting of town privileges by King Albrecht I.

In the course of this long-lasting development, a city floor plan with a highly medieval character was created in a convenient location , the center of which is the spacious rectangular market square at the intersection of three main streets. The center is the town hall built on the south side of the market square .

This medieval townscape was lost in the great fire of 1854 with the exception of a few remains in the peripheral areas. That is why the market square today shows a largely uniform development from the time of King Maximilian II over its high medieval floor plan . The town hall was rebuilt in the Maximilian neo-Gothic style .

The market fountain from the 16th century in Renaissance forms is still part of the old square.
