Enteridium , also known as Reticularia for a long time, is a genus of slime molds from the Myxogastria group . It includes seven types.

features

The fruiting bodies are sessile ethers . They are cushioned or flattened in shape, their base is broad. The pseudocapillitium is fused at the base, it consists of perforated or frayed up to a thread-like shape membranes, which can occasionally be fused together like a network.

The individual or occasionally lump-forming spores are brown or olive-colored as a spore mass, olive-colored to pale brown in transmitted light.

The genus is distributed worldwide, the most common and widespread species are Enteridium lycoperdon and Enteridium splendens .

Systematics and research history

The genus was first described in 1791 by Jean Baptiste François Bulliard as Reticularia , the type species was Reticularia lycoperdon . In 1819 Christian Gottfried Ehrenberg described another genus, Enteridium . When both genera were later combined, the name Reticularia should have been the new generic name. However, this collided with the name of a lichen genus, so the name Enteridium was used for the new genus.
