Ephel Duath is an Italian extreme and progressive metal band from Padua that was founded in 1998.

history

The band was initially only founded as a studio project by Davide Tiso (vocals, electric guitar, keyboards) and Giuliano Mogicato (vocals, electric guitar, electric bass). Together they recorded a first demo called Opera , of which over 1,000 copies were sold. In 2000 their debut album Phormula was released . Then the band reached a contract with Elitist Records , a sub-label of Earache Records , and released their debut album under the name Rephormula and with bonus tracks again. After the release, bassist Fabio Fecchio and singer Davide Tolomei and drummer Davide Piovesan joined the band. A short time later the line-up was expanded to include singer Luciano Lorusso George. The group then went to the studio to record the album The Painter's Palette . This was followed by live performances, with singer Davide Tolomei later leaving the band.

In December 2004 appearances with The Dillinger Escape Plan and Poison the Well followed , with the band being supported by trombonist Federico Nalesso. In February 2005, the band went back to the studio. When the recordings for the album Pain Necessary to Know were finished, drummer Davide Piovesan left the band and was replaced by Andrea Rabuini for the time being. Since the line-up changed frequently from this point on, only one remix album called Pain Remixes the Unknown was released in the following years . There were only a few appearances. The next album, Through My Dog's Eyes , featured drummer Marco Minnemann (ex- necrophagist ) and singer Luciano George Lorusso in addition to Tiso . Then the band took a break and returned in 2012 with the EP On Death and Cosmos . In addition to Tiso, the band consisted of bassist Steve DiGiorgio , singer Karyn Crisis and drummer Marco Minnemann.

style

The music of the group is difficult to assign to a genre. In the beginning the pieces were technically demanding and borrowed from different genres such as jazz , black metal and noise core . The music has avant-garde traits and can in part be compared to music by bands like The Dillinger Escape Plan, Cynic and Fantômas . The later works are far less complex and have a simpler song structure.
