Ephraim L. Acker

Ephraim Leister Acker (born January 11, 1827 in Marlborough , Montgomery County , Pennsylvania , †  May 12, 1903 in Norristown , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1871 and 1873 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Ephraim Acker attended the public schools in his home country and the Sumneytown Academy . He then studied until September 8, 1847 at Marshall College in Mercersburg . This was followed by a medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia until 1852 . Between 1853 and 1877 Acker was the editor of the Norristown Register newspaper . From 1854 to 1860 he also served as a school council in Montgomery County. In 1860 and 1861 he was a postman in Norristown for eleven months. He then served as a Montgomery County prison inspector for three years. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party .

In the congressional elections of 1870 Acker was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded John Dodson Stiles on March 4, 1871 . Since he was not confirmed in 1872, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1873 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, he continued his work in the newspaper industry until 1877. He then studied law despite his age and worked as a lawyer in this profession after his admission. Ephraim Acker died on May 12, 1903 in Norristown.
