James Soloman Biery

James Soloman Biery (born March 2, 1839 in Emlenton , Venango County , Pennsylvania , †  December 3, 1904 in Allentown , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1873 and 1875 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Biery attended public schools in his home country and then worked as a teacher in the Pennsylvanian oil region for three years. In 1861 he moved to Allentown, where he was employed as a teacher for another eight years. Then he first studied theology; whether he was active as a theologian is not known. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1868, he began to practice in Allentown in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1869 he was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives .

In the congressional elections of 1872 Biery was elected in the sixth constituency of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded the Democrat Ephraim Leister Acker on March 4, 1873 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1874, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1875 .

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, James Biery worked again as a lawyer. He also dealt with literary matters. He died on December 3, 1904 in Allentown, where he was also buried.
