Epix is an American pay TV station that can be received via cable . The broadcast started on October 30, 2009.
history
The founding of the station Epix was announced by the original owners Paramount Pictures , MGM , and Lions Gate Entertainment on April 21, 2008 after renewed negotiations over the licensing of the programs of the three companies with the station Showtime failed. An initial broadcast arrangement with a network operator was signed with Verizon FiOS on July 28, 2009. After negotiations with other providers such as Comcast , Cablevision and DirecTV failed in August 2009, it was decided in the following month to expand the offer to include a video-on-demand service called Epix MegaPlex . At the start of the broadcast on October 30, 2009, the film Iron Man was shown. Epix is the youngest pay-TV broadcaster to date in the US television landscape, after Starz, the previous pay-TV broadcaster, went on air on February 1, 1994.
The ownership structure of the station changed from 2016. After Lionsgate took over the competitor Starz completely, the shares in Epix were sold to the two co-owners. By May 2017, MGM had also bought the shares from Paramount, so that it is now the sole owner of the station.
