Eppisburg is a district of the municipality of Holzheim in the Swabian district of Dillingen an der Donau . The place was incorporated into Holzheim on May 1, 1978.

location

The parish village is two and a half kilometers east of Holzheim at the northern foot of the Iller-Lech-Platte .

history

Archaeological finds from the Hallstatt and Celtic times were made in the area. The Roman road Günzburg - Burghöfe runs north of Eppisburg . Eppisburg is first mentioned around 1099 as "Eppinespurch". Over the place was a castle, the seat of the lords of Eppisburg, who exercised the manorial rule . 1099 is called "Hartwic of Eppinespurch". In 1280 the Lords of Roth owned the village. Wolfhard von Roth , bishop of Augsburg from 1288 to 1302 , gave it to the Margarethenkloster in Augsburg between 1283 and 1287. In 1534 Eppisburg fell to the imperial city of Augsburg and then came to the bishopric of Augsburg by way of exchange . Eppisburg was the seat of a Vogt Office , which from 1789 to the first of the Rentamt Dillingen and Pflegamt Weis Ingen was assumed. In the course of secularization in 1802/03, Markt Eppisburg came to Bavaria and was assigned to the Dillingen district court on June 1, 1804 .

Eppisburg belonged to the parish of Holzheim and was raised to its own parish in 1862. In 1285 there is evidence of a church in the village. The current Catholic parish church of St. Nikolaus was built between 1922 and 1924 according to the plans of the Munich architect Lorenz Ungewitter .
