Location of the Hereditary Grand Duke Friedrich Barracks in Baden-Württemberg

The Erbgroßherzog-Friedrich-Kaserne was a complex of military buildings in Freiburg im Breisgau that was built at the end of the 19th century. The buildings complemented the Karlskaserne , which came from the 18th century. The barracks named after Hereditary Duke Friedrich II was located on a piece of land between Sautierstrasse, Rennweg and Stefan-Meier-Strasse (then: Bismarckstrasse). Friedrich was stationed in Freiburg until 1897.

In 1888 the establishment of the barracks began with the construction of the parade house , before the vehicle shed followed in 1889 with assembly chambers on the upper floors. Both buildings were made as plastered buildings . In the same year the construction of barracks I began, in which two companies found space. From 1893 to 1895, barracks II and III were built for two additional companies each, so that six companies of the 5th Baden Infantry Regiment No. 113 found accommodation there. In addition, a farm building with a team kitchen, laundry room, sutler's shop and gunsmith's shop (in an extension) as well as the family residence were built. This contained apartments for the barracks inspector, the barracks attendant and 17 married NCOs. Furthermore, the assembly chamber building, the cartridge house, a horse shelter, the team lab building and the detention center with 28 cells, detention supervisor apartment, guard and rooms for the divisional court were built.

The buildings were on pedestals of Vosges - sandstone in brick shell with yellow Verblendsteinen and with cornices running and door frames of the same sandstone that roofs with Doppelfalzziegeln covered; only the armory, the mount chamber building and the cartridge house had wood-cement roofs . North-west of the barracks was the parade ground, the north-western part of which was built on the Mooswald with shooting ranges.

The north administrative center is located on the site of the barracks. a. until 2014 with the District Armed Forces Replacement Office Freiburg, today Federal Agency for Real Estate One team building was converted for the State Office for Geology, Raw Materials and Mining , and another for the Freiburg City Tax Office . Today the Freiburg airfield is located on the site of the parade ground .
