action
Max is on the road with his pregnant wife Lina when he receives an unpleasant call: His grandfather would like to see him again briefly before he is picked up. Reluctantly and only by persuading his girlfriend, Max complies with the request. When Max enters the grandfather's house alone, it becomes clear that a past that still has an impact today seems to separate the two. The grandfather gives his grandson a surprising gift: a gold bar weighing five kilograms that he has stored in a safe in his wardrobe. Max is asked to think about the origin of the valuable item. After a few minutes nothing is as it was: The visit to grandfather becomes a moral test for Max. In a conversation between Max, Lina and grandfather, the viewer is finally shown the full certainty about the origin of the gold: The grandfather was an overseer in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp . The gold comes from the valuables and the dentures that were stolen from the murdered concentration camp inmates. Later, Max's grandfather, Max's parents and Max himself benefited from this genetic makeup. At the end of the film, the grandfather leaves the house with his lawyer to appear responsible for what he did back then in court. The film closes with the words of the grandfather. "I did my work there!"
