Christian Friedel (born March 9, 1979 in Magdeburg ) is a German actor and musician . In addition to his work at the Dresden and Düsseldorf theaters, also together with his band Woods of Birnam , he is particularly known for his leading roles in The White Band and Elser and most recently for his appearances in Babylon Berlin and Parfum .

Life

Christian Friedel initially played in Magdeburg at the Maxim-Gorki-Theater . He studied at the Otto Falckenberg School in Munich from 2001 to 2004 and then played at the Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel and the Münchner Kammerspiele . He later became a member of the Hanover Theater . In the 2009/2010 season Friedel moved to the Dresden State Theater . He ended his permanent contract in the summer of 2013. He is still available to the Dresden ensemble as a guest.

In the film The White Ribbon - A German Children's Story Friedel plays the village teacher. The film was awarded the Palme d'Or in Cannes in 2009 and received awards in ten categories of the German Film Prize in 2010 . He played in Russendisko (2012), had one of the leading roles in the film Amour Fou (2014) and was in the cinema as Georg Elser in Elser - He would have changed the world (2015). In 2016 Friedel played the founder of adidas, Adi Dassler, in the television film Die Dasslers. In 2017 he played a police photographer in the TV series Babylon Berlin .

As a musician (piano, vocals, composition) Friedel released an EP in 2011 . In 2011 he founded the band Woods of Birnam together with four musicians from the band Polarkreis 18 , whose debut album was released on November 7, 2014.

From November 2012 to January 2019 Friedel played the title role in 109 performances in Hamlet at the Dresden State Theater. His band Woods of Birnam also performed live. In 2016 the production Searching for William with Woods of Birnam premiered at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden.

Friedel is a guest in plays at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus , for example in Robert Wilson's production of ETA Hoffmann's Der Sandmann and together with Woods of Birnam in Orwells 1984 .

Friedel also works as a director at the Deutsches Theater Göttingen.
