Erhard Scheibe

Erhard Scheibe (born September 24, 1927 in Berlin ; † January 7, 2010 in Hamburg ) was a philosopher of science who was particularly concerned with the philosophical foundations of modern physics . He published works on the interpretation of quantum mechanics and reductionism in physics.

Scheibe studied in Göttingen , where he also received his doctorate in mathematics in 1955 . From 1957 he was assistant to Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker . In 1963 he completed his habilitation in philosophy at the University of Hamburg with the thesis "The contingent statements in physics", in which philosophical problems of quantum mechanics are dealt with. Afterwards he was a full professor of philosophy in Göttingen . In 1977 he was elected a full member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences . From 1983 until his retirement in 1992 he held the chair for philosophy of natural sciences in Heidelberg .
